Prepare to relax

At an elevation of 4500 feet, Ruby is a bit closer to the sun than some visitors are used to.  The bright days are fabulous year-round, and the best way to enjoy your visit with us is come prepared for the landscape of a desert ghost town. Here are our personal recommendations. Please note that all trash &  food waste must be packed in, packed out in our leave no trace environment.

To Bring:

-Sunscreen & a brimmed hat
-Comfortable walking shoes/hiking boots for gravel trails and paths
-Water bottle and plenty of extra water. Ruby is on a rainwater catchment system that supports ONLY the day to day operations at the ghost town. Bottled water and ice may be available from the caretaker; please inquire.
-Long sleeves. Temp drops are common in the desert, and mesquite and acacia are prickly to encounter. Also serves as sun protection.
-Dog leash and biodegradable waste bags. We welcome dogs and responsible pet owners to explore Ruby. Please clean up after your pet and dispose of waste in the outhouses. No plastic, please.
-Snacks - Ruby is 12 miles from the nearest grocery store
-Chapstick
-Long pants suggested for off-trail exploring
-Warm hat- for campers, early fishermen, and winter season guests. Gloves and layers like vests and down jackets are a solid choice too.
-If camping, bring firewood
-If grilling, bring charcoal
